About Village Sanctuary Comics & Games
Welcome to Village Sanctuary Comics & Games, a Safe Space Ministry proudly owned and operated by Village United Methodist Church. We are more than just a store – we are an outreach center dedicated to creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community for everyone. We believe in providing a supportive refuge where people can come as they are and share in the joy of comics, games, and creativity without fear of judgment or exclusion.
Our Mission: A Safe Sanctuary for All
Village Sanctuary Comics & Games was founded to foster a space of belonging, where members of our community – particularly those who often feel marginalized or left out – can feel accepted and valued. Our mission is to reach out to several key demographics, offering a supportive environment for:
- Neurodivergent Individuals – We know that traditional social spaces aren’t always accommodating, so we work to create an understanding environment tailored to the unique needs and strengths of neurodivergent members of our community. Our staff is trained to provide a calm, structured, and welcoming space, where everyone feels empowered to participate, connect, and be themselves.
- Young and Family-Aged People – Our ministry is a haven for families, children, and young adults, providing a wholesome, safe space where people of all ages can connect, play, and build friendships. We offer kid-friendly events, family game nights, and youth-centered programs that create a positive environment for younger fans to explore and grow.
- LGBTQIA+ Individuals – As part of our mission to be a sanctuary, we are committed to being an inclusive, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. Village Sanctuary stands as a beacon of acceptance, where everyone can feel respected and welcomed. We celebrate diversity and believe that everyone deserves a community that respects and values who they are.
What We Offer
Comics & Graphic Novels
Our collection of comics and graphic novels includes diverse genres and voices, catering to a broad spectrum of readers, interests, and experiences. We curate titles that amplify different perspectives, making it easy for readers of all kinds to find stories they identify with and learn from. Our friendly team is ready to help anyone – whether they’re seasoned readers or newcomers – find their next great read.
Tabletop Games and Safe Play Space
We know that games bring people together, so we’ve created an inclusive space for tabletop and card gaming. Here, you can enjoy board games, RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, and community game nights in a setting free from bullying and hate. We host gaming events for all skill levels, encouraging a spirit of fun and friendship that’s open to everyone, no matter their background or gaming experience.
Community Events with a Purpose
Our events are designed to bring people together in ways that promote kindness, respect, and connection. Whether it’s a D&D campaign, a comic book discussion, or a family night, we aim to create activities that strengthen our bonds and offer meaningful interactions. We also host special events that promote awareness and inclusivity, supporting both individual growth and community understanding.
Family-Friendly and Accessible Space
Our ministry prioritizes family-friendly events and accessible spaces to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or background, feels comfortable. We maintain a relaxed environment that’s designed to be sensory-friendly and considerate of individual needs, making it a place where families can feel at ease.
Our Vision: A Ministry of Love and Belonging
As a ministry of Village United Methodist Church, we hold firmly to the belief that everyone is made in the image of God and is deeply loved. We aim to be a sanctuary of compassion, fun, and acceptance, grounded in the Christian values of love, respect, and inclusion. At Village Sanctuary Comics & Games, you’ll find a safe space to connect, learn, and grow, and a community committed to standing against bullying, hate, and exclusion.
We invite you to join us, explore with us, and feel at home with us at Village Sanctuary Comics & Games – where everyone is welcome, and everyone belongs.
